Syria has repeatedly stressed that it will not use any chemical weapons, if they exist, against its people no matter the circumstances, an official source at the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said on Monday.
The source added, responding to statements made by the U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, in which she warned Syria against the possibility of using chemical weapons, that Syria has repeatedly made this stress to the U.S. side directly and through the Russian friends and to the UN Secretary General.
It affirmed that Syria is defending its people and struggling along with them against al-Qaeda-linked terrorism which is being backed by known countries, on top of them is the USA itself.
"The Ministry denounces raising this issue directly or indirectly by the U.S. administration, whether with us since months or with the friends in Russia," the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry source said.
It added that this matter arouses suspicions about the intentions of the US, especially that the US has a record of fabricating such issues, not the last were its claims regarding the existence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, and its use of those claims as a pretext to invade Iraq.
The Ministry source slammed the US for being the first country in history to use nuclear weapons in 1945 against the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, calling on it to stop fabricating such things.
It highlighted that these fabrications are aimed basically at misleading the U.S. and world public opinion and diverting attention away from the US involvement in the Syrian issue in terms of the financial, logistic and political support it provides the terrorist groups.
