Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed the need for reaching a solution to the crisis in Syria on the basis of Geneva Statement and an immediate cessation of the violence in Syria, calling on the international community to work to achieve that.
In a joint press conference with Egyptian counterpart, Mohammad Kamel Amre, in Moscow on Friday, Lavrov said : " We exchanged views on the situation in Syria and agreed on the necessity of stopping the violence immediately and reaching a solution and a settlement on the basis of Geneva Statement,"
Lavrov emphasized that instead of instigation, the international community must work to stop the violence and exert pressure on the parties to compel them to apply what was agreed upon in Geneva statement.
" The Syrian people are the only ones to determine their own destiny," Lavrov noted.
On the results of his meetings with Deputy Foreign Minister, Dr. Fayssal Mikdad, Lavrov said that Moscow has got an evaluation of the situation in Syria and the UN envoy, Lakhdar Brahimi, recent visit to Damascus as it discussed the Syrian leadership's readiness to start the dialogue, pointing out that Russia will listen to Brahimi's view in Moscow regarding his meetings in Damascus.
Answering a question about the so-called Doha coalition, Lavrov expressed Moscow's disappointment with the statement which announced the time of the formation of the coalition which mainly aimed at canceling the governmental establishments in Syria and rejection of dialogue.
